Marginal Utility Theory and Indifference Curves (2 ways to view the way to decide what combination of things to buy) + Budget Lines (shows the trade-offs possible with resources available) = How to determine consumption points.   Don't forget that any change will involve an Income effect change and a Substitution effect change, which may move in similar or opposite directions.
